Exhibition Preview, Fearless Fashion: Rudi Gernreich

Be the first in Arizona to see the first major exhibition exploring the social and cultural impact of 1960s-mod designer Rudi Gernreich, with exclusive, socially distanced access.

Limited preview tickets are available. To ensure appropriate physical distancing, access to the exhibition preview will be timed with limited capacity per half hour.

On view to the public April 7 – September 26, 2021, Fearless Fashion: Rudi Gernreich explores the life and influence of Rudolph “Rudi” Gernreich (1922-1985), the designer best known for his gender-fluid, body-positive designs that revolutionized perceptions of beauty, gender, and identity. Born in Vienna, Gernreich, who was Jewish, fled Nazi oppression and emigrated to Los Angeles. He found safe haven in the performing arts community and the gay rights movement, which drove him to seek social change through fashion design.

Organized by the Skirball Cultural Center, Los Angeles, Fearless Fashion showcases more than 80 trailblazing designs by the 1960s-mod legend, including the thong, unisex clothing, the women’s pantsuit, and the “monokini” topless swimsuit that propelled Gernreich to fame.
