Beyond its basic purpose to protect and adorn us, fashion can also be used as a means to promote social change. From the white dresses worn by suffragettes in the 1900s to the “pink pussy hat" designed in 2016, garments and accessories have served to connect people as they stand united in a collective purpose. Helen Jean, the Museum’s Jacquie Dorrance Curator of Fashion Design, will discuss key moments in history when fashion was used as a form of protest.
Special guest and Arizona fashion designer, Jared Yazzie, will share insight into his line of active-wear which promotes increased awareness of indigenous issues.
