Join Phoenix Art Museum and Arizona Costume Institute for a fundraiser to unveil the new official Geoffrey Beene Archive at Phoenix Art Museum.
One of New York's most awarded fashion designers, Beene was recognized for his artistic and technical acuity, creating highly complex and colorful garments that explored the relationship between fabric, the human body, and movement.
During this virtual event, attendees will be among the first to view the Museum’s recently established Beene Archive, which features more than 400 garments and sets the stage for a future exhibition. The evening will feature the world premiere of the official Geoffrey Beene Archive Film, live discussions with founding Beene Archive contributor Patsy Tarr, and a dance homage featuring original choreography by Deanna McBrearty, former dancer for the New York City Ballet and Beene’s longtime model, and choreographer Doug Varone who will also provide insight into the late designer and his work. This celebratory event will introduce guests to the inherent grace and movement of Geoffrey Beene’s garments while recognizing this singular designer and his penchant for high-performance couture.
