ACI 2ND WEDNESDAY LUNCHEON WITH DESIGNER LUISA CEVESE

Organized in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles, join ACI for an afternoon at Phoenix Art Museum with lunch followed by a lecture with guest speaker designer Luisa Cevese - I love waste, working with waste: Luisa Cevese and the Riedizioni Project.

A self-taught accessories designer and textile artist based in Milano, Cevese began her work as an apprentice in Paola Besana’s weaving studio in Milano. She studied weaving, on and off loom techniques, spinning and dying both in Italy, Mexico, Central America and in the U.S.

As a hand weaver, in 1984 she began designing textiles for fashion and interiors, providing work for companies such as Bonotto, Romeo Gigli, Chanel, Hermes, Maharam and Comme des Garcons, among others, and Mantero Seta. As Head of Research at Centro Ricerche Mantero in Como, Italy’s silk weaving center, she became acutely aware of the large quantity of waste produced by the textile industry.

In 1996 she founded Riedizioni a design studio where she re-appropriates production waste and post-consuming materials, combining them with pure polyurethane to create an original and innovative fabric, suitable to be cut into one-of a kind bags, accessories and home textiles and products, all hand-made in Milano.
