ACI Second Wednesday Lunch and Lecture

Explore the fascinating history of fashion one day at a time as historian, curator, and journalist Kimberly Chrisman-Campbell presents her new book, Worn On This Day: The Clothes That Made History. Beginning on January 1st (with a pair of New Year's outfits from the Phoenix Art Museum's collection) and ending on December 31st, Worn On This Day looks at garments worn on monumental occasions across centuries and continents. Chrisman-Campbell offers capsule fashion histories of everything from space suits to wedding gowns, sports uniforms, coronation robes, and armor. In every case there is a newsworthy narrative behind the garment, whether famous and glamorous or anonymous and humble. Prominent figures like Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, and the Duchess of Cambridge are represented alongside ordinary people caught up in extraordinary events.
