ADVANCE STYLE: FILM REVIEW

The screening of Advanced Style sent ACI members on an emotional roller coaster this past Sunday. We laughed, we cried, and of course we had serious fashion-envy. Based on a blog started by Ari Seth Cohen, Advanced Style gives viewers a peek into the lives of some of the fashionably fearless “advanced” New York women. The ladies, typically 50 years or older, are an absolute breath of fresh air and are chock-full of wisdom: about life, about aging, and definitely about fashion. Some of our favorite, had-to-write-down lines from the movie are: Joyce Carpati: “I never wanted to look young, I wanted to look great” Lynn Dell: “Either you have it, or you don’t. And if you don’t, we can teach it to you” And of course, the amazing (94 year old) Ilona Royce Smithkin: “If you try to imitate too much, then you look like nothing. Never compare yourself. You are you.” If you haven’t visited the blog yet, it is a must-read. You can find out more about these fabulous ladies here: http://advancedstyle.blogspot.com/.
